Why Alton Brown was Right About Cucumber Water

This picture may not look like very much, but this is my homemade cucumber water. The thought came to me recently when I was listening to the Alton Brown Podcast.  Alton confessed his love for lemonade to quench his thirst, but his true love of cucumber water.
I became very curious of cucumber water since I have drunk lots of glasses of lemonade, and wanted to see what makes cucumber water so special.

Cucumber water is actually crisp and refreshing to drink. If you want you can stick in a piece of cucumber and a piece of lemon, and some ice cubes. You can even add mint. I keep my water in the refrigerator when I am not chugging away.

There are a many recipes for cucumber water on the internet.

I have a water container in the refrigerator so that I always have cold water. I took a medium sized cucumber and scrubbed it well, and took off about half the skin and cut it into slices. I then took the pieces of cucumber and put them into a cheesecloth type piece of fabric and stuck that into the water container, and placed the cover back on top and placed it in the refrigerator. You can throw out the cucumber the next day.

Within an hour my water tasted like cucumber. I was drinking more of it than regular water.

Cohen's Bagel Company in Madison, CT

Courtesy of Cohen's Bagel Company

Have you been to Cohen's Bagel Company in Madison, CT?  Here is a link to their website. It is a local family owned business in my part of the woods.

They make bagels fresh everyday.  They have many of your favorite flavors including french toast and jalapeno. They steam their bagels. The afternoon I came in they sold quite a few bagels. They also had scones and elephant ears.

Not only do they have bagels and breads, but they also serve salads, and pastries. Here are their fresh baked breads.

Here is the Roast beef, avocado, provolone, romaine lettuce and horseradish mayonnaise on a toasted french baguette I purchased that happened to a special. It was excellent. They have a large menu of sandwiches, and they also serve soup.

Here is their menu with a vast array of goodies.

Sit down and eat in their dining room.

Chicken Gyro at the Village Bagels

I had lunch recently from the Village Bagels in Milford CT.  I find Greek food very enticing, so I had a Super Chicken Gyro with an Organic Arizona Green Tea with Honey.
It was very tasty.
The price for the sandwich...
As you see you do have your choice of chicken or lamb with the gyro. The way the sandwich was wrapped it was not messy which made it even more enjoyable.

Trader Joe's Boeuf Bourguignon

I always love to try new things and due to my hospitalization I had some TV dinners for lunch (you do not have to tell me I am glutton for punishment when I say the words "TV Dinner"). So I dared to try Trader Joe's Boeuf Bourguignon.
On the back of the package their are three different ways to heat it.  I choose to heat it up in the oven. You take the meal out of the package and put it in a covered pan and heat it at 350 F for 40 to 45 minutes. Just to let you know I have also tried the Coq au Vin.
Here is the meal in a bowl for which I opted to dump it all in on top of some leftover noodles I had. You can see the bowl overflowed some. The meal was okay but I would say the meal would better served if I made it from scratch.
On another note I am now working for the Ivoryton Playhouse. I take care of their blog.
The world is becoming more exciting in the poitical arena as we get closer and closer to Elections, but thank goodness we have Halloween to give us a thrill before then.
Live life to its fullest and have a great day.

Ben and Jerry's S'mores Ice Cream

It's summertime and there is no better time to try some different ice cream flavors. My latest trial was Ben and jerry's S'mores ice cream.
Now here is the inside of the container.
If you like soft ice cream that is melted this ice cream is perfect for you. The soft marshmallow makes this ice cream soft.

By the way if you want to see how dirty a counter or wall is, take a picture of it. Look at it, and if you are like me the next thing you will want to do is clean it.

I recently saw the movie "The Informant!" starring Matt Damon.
The Informant!
It gave me a new understanding of white collar crime and price fixing. I could not resist writing an article about it. There are so many articles online about corporations price fixing despite the fact that it is illegal. They appear to rather prefer ti price fix and face the consequences later. I know I get carried away I just do not like to hear of people abusing the system.

Don' t fret about price fixing and let it get you down. You only have one life, so relax and enjoy the free time you have.

I Scream You Scream We all Scream for Ice Cream!

I love going to the grocery store and choosing one of the exotic flavors of ice cream in the freezer. Yes, there are flavors that should definitely be passed up because they are bad combos.  I tried another Ben & Jerry ice cream - Maple Blondie. It is a limited batch flavor.
How yummy is it --- here is the ice cream with the cover off.
I love the taste of maple syrup on pancakes and French toast. That is why I love the maple flavor and the ice cream, and the added taste of those blondies. You could just lick those lips.

If not there is only one thing left to do...
Go to Dairy Queen and stand in line for a chocolate cone with chocolate sprinkles. Here is the Dairy Queen in Old Saybrook, CT, which is one popular place. Almost every time you drive past the place there is a line of people for ice cream.

Get out and get ice cream!

If You Love Brownies...and Ice Cream

One of my favorite desserts has always been ice cream. I use to have a hat when I was growing up that said, "I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for Ice Cream." The things that are bought for us when we are children.

If I had a choice between Brownies and Cookies, it is brownies all the way. I like their thick chewy goodness.

So what could be better than Ben & Jerry's Brownie Batter Ice Cream...
Opening the cover just made the ice cream that more inviting..

This ice cream literally tastes like brownies. It is worth buying again. It is an ice cream that is definitely worth screaming about in excitement.
